What is PBIS?

Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach used to promote positive behaviors, improve school safety, and meet the needs of all students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.
What we do at McKendree
• Define expectations: We Stay Safe, Own our Actions, Act Respectfully, and Rise to Excellence. We SOAR!
• Model and teach expectations regularly
• Monitor expected behaviors
• Recognize individuals when expected behaviors are demonstrated
How do we celebrate students?

Reteach expected behaviors as needed

We recognize and use positive rewards to celebrate students’ successes.

Eagle Bucks: This is a school-wide token economy to promote positive behaviors. Students will be acknowledged for exhibiting positive behaviors by receiving Eagle Bucks. They are given out by teachers, staff members & bus drivers. Students will “cash in” their Eagle Bucks for rewards once a week at the SOAR store.

Students can use their Eagle Bucks to buy a snack, toy, pens/pencils, have lunch with an administrator, learn how to use the 3D printer, hat & pajama days, book vending machine, snack shack, and helping another teacher.

Stay calm and use a calm voice.

Set reasonable limits.

Recognize your child when for positive behavior.

Give clear conscience directions.

4 positives to 1 correction

Be consistent: YES means YES, and NO means NO.
